Here is the next to last installment of the Top 25, and tomorrow we will debut the Top 5 in college football. This football season is going to be intriguing because any one of these top 10 teams could win a national title. The top end of college football is loaded and there could be some secondary conferences sending undefeated teams in to the BCS.
10. Auburn Tigers-Auburn returns 16 starters and they play in the murderous SEC. They lose Will Muschamp to the Longhorns, but they do get LSU, Georgia, and Tennessee at home this year and don't have to play Florida in the regular season. Running back by committee will be the key, but they are strong up front after 3 true freshmen were thrown to the wolves last year. Defense is always solid with plenty of talent returning.
9. Clemson Tigers- They are notorious underachievers, but in the ACC they are the prohibitive favorite. One of the nation's most talented backfields with CJ Spiller, James Davis, and Cullen Harper who had a 27-6 touchdown to interception ratio last season. Defensively safeties Michael Hamlin and Chris Clemons lead the way. They return 16 starters and the schedule is pretty cushy.
8. West Virginia Mountaineers- Pat White and Noel Devine return with a new head coach in Bill Stewart. This team needs to move on from the Rich Rodriguez debacle and a soft Big East schedule should do the trick. Their big test will come December 6 against South Florida, but they get the game in Morgantown.
7. LSU Tigers- Can Les Miles sell his soul to the devil again. Every fourth down gamble they took last year paid off, can they repeat the magic. They are still looking for a quarterback after Ryan Perilloux was kicked off the team. They lose Jacob Hester to the NFL, but the defense is better than most NFL defenses. They are thin at defensive back, but the front seven is dominant and should control the run and get a great pass rush.
6. Missouri Tigers- How does this team deal with the expectations of being a national contender. With Chase Daniels running the spread and all-purpose wideout Jeremy Maclin, there will be plenty of offense this year. Defensively, they are extremely underrated with All-American William Moore, Stryker Sulak and 1st team All-Big 12 performer Sean Witherspoon. They play an extremely favorable schedule with Texas, Kansas, and Illinois being their big games.
Tune in tomorrow for the Top 5, it should be interesting.
