Throughout the week leading up to game week against Florida Atlantic, we are going to count down my Top 25. Today we start with the bottom of the bunch.
25. Fresno State Bulldogs-Returns two year starter in Tom Brandstater. Ryan Mathews is a true sophomore who had 14 TD's last year. Return 9 of top 10 on the OL and will have a couple of big-time transfers on the DL. 7 of top 8 DB's return and they have Pat Hill, a former NFL coach who wants to play the big boys in college football each and every week
24. Alabama Crimson Tide- Lost 6 games in 07 by 7 points or less. Returns John Parker Wilson at QB. Terry Grant returns at running back after gaining almost 1000 yards in 07. Nick Saban will have that defense ramped up in his second year in Tuscaloosa.
23. Wake Forest- Plays in the weak ACC, with one of the most underated coaches in college football in Jim Grobe. Riley Skinner returns at QB after completing 72% of his passes last year. 9 of 11 on defense are seniors so they have tons of experience on defense.
22. South Florida- Many people think this team will contend for a BCS bowl. They have a huge game in December against West Virginia and they always play tough in big games, but consistency is the issue as they always end up losing a game or two in the middle of the year that they should win. George Selvie returns at DE, with 31 tfl's and 14.5 sacks. Matt Grothe returns at QB
21. Penn State- Team must break in a new quarterback this year and also lost their top returning tackler, Sean Lee, in spring ball to a torn ACL. Excellent receiving core in Deon Butler and Derrick Williams who seem to have been there forever. Defensively they are big up front with 5 players returning in the back end with starting experience. Must play Wisconsin and Ohio State on the road, but should be good other than those two games.
Stay tuned to us in the morning for the rest of the Top 25. Tomorrow I will give you my 20-16 and see if any Big 12 teams are in there.
